Free lecture: 'which Bible is best' on Sat Feb 4th, 2012 at 11 am at the Cookhouse

Christians and non-Christians alike are often baffled by the incredible number of Bible versions and acronyms competing for their attention and dollars. Readers can choose from the old King James Version, the New King James Version, the New International Version, the English Standard Version and more, including unofficial texts like the “Apocrypha.” Building on his experience as editor of the Eastern Greek Orthodox Bible, the Rev. Laurent Cleenewerck of St. Innocent Orthodox Church in Eureka will discuss these questions and also explore the reason why some Bibles have more books than others. ”People often ask for practical advice on choosing a Bible,” Cleenewerck said. “They want to understand the differences between all these translations, and whether all this really matters.” Everyone is invited to attend this lecture offered at the Samoa Cookhouse on Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. Admission is free, but attendees are expected to order lunch at the Cookhouse. An RSVP is recommended. Call 677-9294 or visit www.eurekafirstchurch.com.
